Baseball closes out with 6 straight winsTuesday, May 22, 2018 WETHERSFIELD - Joey Zawisza has done it once again. Zawisza has been the go-to guy for the Newington baseball team and in its last game of the regular season, Zawisza showed up. “Once again Joey gave us a great opportunity to win the game,” Newington head coach Ben Alaimo said after his team beat the Eagles 11-4. “I’m really proud of him today because he was good enough and tough enough to get the win.” Coming into Monday, Zawisza (6-1) had three walks on the season and although he walked three more on Monday, that still only gives him six total on the season, with 51 strikeouts. Newington’s Gunna Johnson was 1-for-4 at the plate with a double and three RBI, while teammate Spencer Couillard was also 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. The Indians finished their regular season 14-6, although it’s satisfied, it still wants more. “We’re happy where we are at 14-6,” Aliamo said. “I’m hoping for a home game and the win today should get us a piece of the CCC-South Colonial division championship. Our streak is at 6-0, but were shooting for 11-0.”
