Baseball lost to late Xavier Rally

Xavier 7, Newington 5: The Indians led 5-4 in the sixth, but Xavier rallied for three in the bottom of the sixth to pull in front and steal one at home against upset-minded Newington in a first round Class LL game.

“This game kind of reflects our season,” Newington coach Ben Alaimo said. “They took a lead early and a lot of teams would have laid down and called it a season. Our guys didn’t do that. They continued to fight. We came back. I think Xavier, if they didn’t respect us before the game, they do now. We earned that with our play.”

Isaiah Rivera had two doubles for Newington and Nick Sanford had another.
