Sunday, April 7, 2013
NEWINGTON — The Newington baseball team went into the bottom of the seventh inning trailing 4-2 to the Berlin Redcoats on Friday afternoon, but a big rally sent the Indians home winners.
After scoring one run in the inning, Marcus Guadarrama came up with two outs and hit the game-winning single, scoring two runs to give Newington a 5-4 win.
Before the seventh inning the Indians had only scored one run in both the second and third, but they did not give up going into the final frame.
Guadarrama was also the winning pitcher on the day and Berlin’s Mike Veronesi took the loss. Newington’s Jeremy Weyman had a double in the game as well. Both teams are now 1-1 on the season.
