Baseball defeats Wethersfield with big 4thTuesday, May 2, 2017 NEWINGTON - The Newington boys baseball team used a six-run fourth inning to get past Wethersfield on Monday afternoon 7-2. The win puts the Indians just one win away from qualifying for the postseason. Jordan Blanchette picked up the win for Newington while Cooper Johnson was among the offensive standouts. The junior went 2-3 with a sac fly and had one of the Indians’ two extra-base hits. Head coach Ben Alaimo was happy with the team effort because he preaches winning the battle of the free bases, which he describes as walks, errors, wild pitches and passed balls. “Proud of my guys for understanding our system and playing within our offense,” Aliamo said. They were worried less about hitting and more about team play. We put all three phases together today and I’m proud of my guys.” Courtesy of the NB Herald
